NAVITEC SYSTEMS – GIM ROBOTICS PARTNERSHIP

Finland-based GIM Robotics – 3D environmental modeling, localization, and situational awareness wizards – and Navitec Systems – the world leader in natural feature-based navigation – are partnering to jointly provide turnkey solutions for a plethora of logistical use cases.

FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES

The companies share a long joint history with multiple layers of interactions. All eight founders (4 from Navitec and 4 from GIM) are robotics, electrical engineering, and automation graduates from Helsinki University of Technology (later Aalto University), including two ex-professors and five D.Sc.(Tech.). Otaniemi campus area has acted as the incubator for both companies, because in addition to Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd – the largest research and technology company and research centre conducting applied research in Finland – and the employer of three of the founders, is also situated in Otaniemi.

EXPERIENCE IS EVERYTHING

The amount of mobile robotics experience in this group is ridiculous; on average the members of this 4by4 team have more than 25 years of hands-on experience with field and service robots and modern mobile working machines. As the old saying states: they have all been there and done that. Twice.

THE CALL OF THE OUTDOORS

Having mastered the indoor logistics challenges since the foundation of the companies (Navitec 1998 & GIM 2014), both feel that the time is right to switch the common focus to outdoor environments for both single and multi-machine logistics systems orchestrated by proven Fleet Management System (FMS) from Navitec Systems. With a joint staff number closing 100, Navitec-GIM powerhouse has the needed critical mass for doing great things even in the most challenging outdoor use cases.

COMING OUT WITH A BIG BANG

Companies started their partnership in the leading international logistics trade show, LogiMAT, in Munich, Germany May 31st – June 2nd, 2022. Around 1,500 international exhibitors came to Stuttgart to present their latest product innovations and solutions for intralogistics. Both Navitec Systems and GIM Robotics had their own booths to maximize the visibility.
